Coated Cloth Performance IAW MIL-PRF-32002B (Sept 18, 1998)

  • operational temperature range of -45.6°C +/- 2.8°C (-50°F +/- 5°F) to +51.7°C (+125°F) with no loss of performance after 6 months of operation or 2 years of storage at extremes of temperature range
  • waterproofness: material (and seams) will not leak when subjected to static water pressure head of 50 cm (19.69 inches) for 1 hr. at 60°C (140°F)
  • free of defects such as pin holes
  • resistant to: abrasion, oil, fuel, cracking, chalking, blooming, crazing, flaking, accelerated aging, blocking, mildew, etc.
  • Non-toxic even when exposed to 60°C (140oF) for 6 hours (both wet and dry)
  • Major quantitative properties of the coated cloth (MIL-PRF-32002B) include:

ASTM-D751 where sample is prepared with dielectric weld adhesion of plastic layer to woven layer determines welded seam strength; poor adhesion results in fabric de-lamination, weld failure and complete product failure

    Camouflage Characteristics

  • full compliance with the color and spectral reflectance requirements of current revision of Mil-C-46168 (in both visible and near infrared spectra)
  • gloss levels <=1.5 unit unit at 60o incident, <=3.5 units at 85o incident. Gloss results are based on smooth surfaces, values are not assisted by an embossing process.
  • camouflage color and patterns complying with the applicable Belvoir Research, Development, and Engineering Center's Standardized Camouflage Pattern Painting (SCAPP) drawing and the "Guidelines for Inspection of Application of SCAPP"
  • resulting end item shall comply fully with the performance requirements of the cloth specification
  • General soft top performance criteria

    Operating Conditions

  • There shall be no change in performance of the soft top in operating temperatures of -50o to 125o F.
  • The soft top and support structure, when properly installed shall support a maximum of 10 pounds per ft2 snow load.
  • The soft top when properly installed, will remain secure to the vehicle without excessive wind whipping at a maximum vehicle speed of 55 mph.
  • Abrasion

  • The soft top shall show minimum evidence of failure due to abrasion when subjected to normal operating conditions.
  • Where the soft top is directly in contact with the support structure, these areas will be reinforced with additional layers of fabric.
  • Seams

  • The soft top will be of welded construction to ensure structural integrity and waterproofing [using any suitable method including High Frequency Welding (HFW)].
  • Performance of welded seams will meet or exceed the values of tensile strength and coating adhesion governed by the cloth specification.
  • Tension

  • When properly installed and tensioned over the support structure, there shall be no more than one inch of sag along unsupported areas of the soft top.
  • Where possible the fastening system securing the soft top to the vehicle shall apply and maintain constant tension throughout the soft top.
  • The fastening system shall be designed to adjust for any inconsistencies in the support structure, vehicle or vehicle load.
  • Waterproofing

  • The soft top when subjected to simulated rain conditions shall be waterproof to the extent that occupants and equipment will not come in contact with solid drops of water.
  • Fit and Aesthetics

  • There shall be no evidence of excessive stress to the soft top when properly installed and secured to the vehicle.
  • There shall be no openings, holes, or breaks at the interface of the soft top and vehicle.
  • All workmanship shall be executed in accordance with the best commercial practices.
  • Ventilation

  • When the soft top is for troop transport, the design shall allow adequate ventilation in the closed position.
  • The rear curtain must be operational from the inside.
  • The top shall have the ability to secure the side and rear panels open, while the top remains secured to the structure.
  • The soft top's rear panel shall be capable of being secured in the open position as a minimum.
  • Installation/Removal

  • The soft top shall be designed to permit one person (95 percentile female) to install or remove the soft top within 10 minutes without the use of any special tools.
  • Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS):

  • The soft top assembly shall comply with the applicable requirements outlined in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Manual.
  • Corrosion Resistance

  • All components used in the fabrication of the soft top system must be corrosion resistant.
  • We warrantee that all of our military products meet or exceed the minimum requirements of our performance specifications and meet or exceed requirements of form, fit, functionality, interchangeability, interfacing, and reliability, and any other specific performance requirements as stated in the customers' TDP or CID.
